edited October 8 in General Banter
Hello Shatrealm,

Time to see, who has got better CPU & GPU once and for all.

HOW TO:
1. Download latest version of Blender (2.79 at this time):
You can download it from official page:
https://www.blender.org/download/
Or if you use Ubuntu, this ppa:
ppa:thomas-schiex/blender

2. Next, download the .blend file from here:
https://download.blender.org/demo/test/BMW27_2.blend.zip
Unpack it and open the bmw27_cpu.blend

3. Without changing anything, click on Render -> Render Image, or press F12

4. Post screenshot + CPU info

My results:

CPU
Intel i7-7700k @ 4.5 GHz

Time: 06.51.96

  • Just for fun I reset the AMD RYZEN 1700 to stock so this is @ 3.0GHz

If you want to play the GPU game install: apt-get install nvidia-cuda-toolkit g++-5 nvidia-modprobe

    CPU @ 3.0GHz 5:02

If it doesn't kill you keep pulling the trigger.
  • TL; DR - Very interesting that the 780ti is fairs so poorly on CUDA workloads. Must be a Kepler thing.

    CPU: AMD FX 8370E 4.5GHz - 12:48.48

GPU is going to be later because CUDA 7.5 doesn't support the GTX 1080, and to install 8 or 9 on 16.04 is another 1.2GB download.

    [EDIT]

    GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming - 02:32.86
